B2SHARE v4.0.0 — Release Notes
New in B2SHARE v4 — Custom Features
Dynamic B2INST Instrument Selector (deposit)
The deposit form now includes an instrument picker backed by the B2INST API. Users search by name, community, or identifier and select instruments interactively during deposit.
Previously, B2INST data was only shown on published record landing pages; it can now be linked at deposit time
Storage Overview (admin panel)
A new admin panel view shows global disk usage: total capacity, used storage, and a per-community breakdown with a bar chart and scale toggle. Capacity is auto-detected from the local filesystem or set explicitly via B2SHARE_STORAGE_CAPACITY_BYTES.
B2ACCESS Assurance Level Enforcement
Login via B2ACCESS can now be gated on a minimum Level of Assurance (Low, Medium, or High). Users below the configured minimum are blocked with a configurable support contact message.
Controlled via B2ACCESS_MIN_ASSURANCE_LEVEL.
New in B2SHARE v4 — InvenioRDM v14 Platform Upgrade
B2SHARE v4 is based on InvenioRDM v14 (invenio-app-rdm 14.0.0, invenio-rdm-records 32.2.0, invenio-communities 28.2.0). InvenioRDM v14 official release notes.
Record Deletion Requests
Published record owners can submit a deletion request with a stated reason. Requests go through an approval workflow; admins can also perform immediate hard deletion. Deleted records leave a tombstone with the reason and removal policy.
Controlled via RDM_IMMEDIATE_RECORD_DELETION_ENABLED and RDM_REQUEST_RECORD_DELETION_ENABLED.
Community Membership Requests
Users can request to join a community. Managers receive the request, can accept or decline, and assign a role on acceptance. Requests are cancellable by the requester.
Controlled via COMMUNITIES_ALLOW_MEMBERSHIP_REQUESTS.
Request Commenting Enhancements
Several improvements to the commenting experience on submission and review requests:
- Threaded replies — reply directly to a specific comment, keeping discussion grouped
- Quote reply — quote a full comment or a highlighted excerpt when replying
- LaTeX equations — inline (
$) and block ($$) math in comments with a preview button - File attachments — attach files directly to a comment
- Shareable comment links — copy a deep link to any individual comment
- Conversation locking — curators and managers can lock a request’s conversation; events recorded in the timeline
ZIP Archive Content Browsing (partially supported in B2SHARE)
Users can explore archive contents without downloading the full file. Supports a hierarchical tree view, in-browser preview of files inside ZIPs (images, PDFs, text, notebooks, audio/video), and individual file or directory downloads.
GeoJSON Previewer
GeoJSON files are rendered as an interactive map using Leaflet and OpenStreetMap tiles, rather than raw JSON.
Uppy File Uploader
The deposit form uses the Uppy uploader with multipart support, improving handling of large files and upload reliability.
Community Reviews for New Record Versions
Previously, only the first record version required community review. It is now possible to require review for every new version, configurable per instance.
Administration Panel: User Roles
Administrators can create, edit, and assign user roles directly from the administration panel without using the CLI.
Files Extra Quota (not enabled by default in B2SHARE)
Administrators can grant users a configurable budget of extra storage quota beyond the default, which users can allocate across their records. Quota usage is visible in the user’s settings page.
File Modification After Publication (not enabled by default in B2SHARE)
Administrators can allow record owners to unlock and modify files within a configurable window after publication (default: unlock within 30 days, re-publish within 45 days).
DOI Registration via Crossref (not enabled by default in B2SHARE)
Crossref is now available as a DOI provider alongside DataCite, supporting textual content types (journal articles, books, conference proceedings, preprints, posters, dissertations). Multiple DOI prefixes and mixed DataCite/Crossref configurations are supported within a single instance.
